Cooler temperatures and chances for rain are on the way
Yesterday, Palm Springs reached a high temperature of 72°. This is above the normal for this time of year because of an area of high pressure. This ridge of high pressure will be moving east and will begin to be replaced by a strong trough of low pressure.
Ahead of this trough of low pressure moving in for Sunday, gusty winds will pick up for the mountains and the high desert. Gusts could reach 50+ mph along desert mountain slopes.
This trough of low pressure will bring rain chances for the Coachella Valley by Sunday night with showers through the region Monday. Rainfall amounts will be less than 0.5".
Another round of rain and mountain snow moves into the region Christmas evening through Thursday. This system will be colder and will drop snow levels near 4000 ft.
As far as temperatures go, Saturday will remain above normal. Then, as this area of low pressure moves in, temperatures will be back in the 60's. Next week, we are even watching for a few high temperatures in the upper 50's.
