Flash flood warnings continue through the weekend

More wet weather will continue to hit ares near the Coachella Valley, and several cities could see rain as well throughout the weekend. Saturday’s storms once again sent water into valley washes flooding roadways. Palm Springs says Araby and Golf Club Drive were closed, and Cathedral City also closed Cathedral Canyon once again. Be sure to steer clear of washes with running water in them. Below is Saturday’s warning from the U.S. Weather Service.

…A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 330 PM PDT FOR CENTRAL RIVERSIDE AND NORTH CENTRAL SAN DIEGO COUNTIES…A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 415 PM PDT FOR EXTREME SOUTH CENTRAL SAN BERNARDINO AND NORTHWESTERN RIVERSIDE COUNTIES

AT 224 PM PDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THAT HEAVY RAIN HAS ENDED FOR THE MOMENT OVER THE WARNED AREA. HOWEVER…DUAL POLARIZATION STORM TOTAL PRECIPITATION ACCUMULATION HAS ESTIMATED THAT 1.75 TO 2.25 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN OVER THE AREA IN THE PAST FEW HOURS. FLASH FLOODING MAY STILL BE POSSIBLE.

LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO LAKE HEMET… IDYLLWILD-PINE COVE…IDYLLWILD…THE MOUNTAIN FIRE BURN SCAR…STATE ROUTE 74…STATE ROUTE 371 AND THE SOUTH FORK SAN JACINTO RIVER.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY AUTOMOBILE.

PLEASE REPORT FLASH FLOODING AND DAMAGE FROM FLASH FLOODS TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO TWITTER AND FACEBOOK PAGES.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Frank Sinatra Drive was closed at the wash (between Hwy 111 and Da Vall Drive) due to flooding.
