Thief hits SF Bay Area firehouse while crews away

Fire officials say crews battling a wildfire at a San Francisco Bay Area wilderness park became burglary targets.

A Contra Costa County fire station in Walnut Creek was broken into this week while crews were out fighting the fire at Mount Diablo State Park.

Fire officials say the burglar broke into lockers, desks and gym bags and made off with money, an iPad and one firefighter’s wedding band and watch.

A second firehouse was also targeted, but a sleeping firefighter scared away the thief.

Contra Costa County Fire Capt. Robert Marshall called the incident a slap in the face.
