Prostate Cancer symposium continues at Eisenhower Medical Center

The Eisenhower Medical Center’s seventh annual Arnold Palmer Prostate Center Symposium, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease, continues Monday.

All but one of the lectures will be at the Curci Cancer Center at Eisenhower in Rancho Mirage, at 39000 Bob Hope Drive. The other, on Tuesday, will present an overview of the cancer at Eisenhower’s George and Julia Argyros Health Center in La Quinta, at 45280 Seeley Drive.

The lecture schedule at the cancer center is:

— Today at noon: “Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer: Understanding Your Treatment Options”;

— 5:30 p.m. Wednesday: “Prostate Cancer: How to Protect Your Bones”;

— 5:30 p.m. Thursday: “Treatment Options for Localized Prostate Cancer”; and

— 5:30 p.m. Sept. 30: “Treatment of Advanced Stage Prostate Cancer.”

The lecture in La Quinta will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday on the topic: `An Overview of Prostate Cancer: Present Treatments and Future Options.”

According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, prostate cancer is the second-most common type of cancer in men, and one in six men will develop the disease.

The symposium is named for famed golfer Arnold Palmer, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1997, underwent surgery and radiation treatment and was back on the course eight weeks afterward.
