Deadly crash shuts down Highway 111
An elderly man died Friday night after crashing his car into a palm tree on Highway 111 Friday night.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Buddy Rogers, in front of the IMAX theatre in Cathedral City.
The male driver was headed eastbound on Highway 111 when his car went off the road, according to police. He died at the scene.
The man’s female passenger was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 111 are shut down while police investigate.
