Child killed in crash on I-10 identified

The 7 year-old boy who was killed in an accident on I-10 last Friday has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Jonathan Rosales died after being ejected from his family’s minivan when it overturned on the interstate around 7:15 a.m. The crash happened near the Hwy. 62 crossing. He was unrestrained, according to the coroner.

Rosales was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center but died around 8 a.m. from his injuries. Three other people in the van were also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The minivan was traveling eastbound on I-10 when the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle, which was towing a trailer filled with household appliances, according to officers with CHP.

The investigation of the crash lasted over five hours and caused a traffic jam which stretched close to five miles.

It appears the family was moving due to the number of household appliances that were spilled onto the interstate.
