PS Black History Committee honors News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 News
The fifth annual PSBHC Black History Awards Gala kicked off a month’s worth of events aimed at honoring African-American contributions in the Coachella Valley
Saturday night’s event honored five community members for their work in promoting diversity in the Valley.
Evernall Black and Cora Crawford were honored with Lifetime achievements awards.
Other community recipients include former Olympian Gale Fitzgerald, Desert Outlook Editor Will Dean, Council member Chris Mills, James O. Jessie and Gulf Broadcasting News Channel 3’s and CBS Local 2’s parent company.
“They were the only media outlet that willingly help promote our activities and show the diversity and not just for African-Americans but the total inclusion of every ethnicity and orientation, handicap, that is what our mission statement is about, total diversity that brings this whole Valley together,” said VP of PSBHC Wes Rankins.
Rankins also points out Palm Springs is one of the few cities in Southern California that celebrate Black History month with events all month Long.
