Woman arrested after two-year old grandchild tests positive for methamphetamine
An Oregon woman was being held on $35,000.00 bail Tuesday morning after police arrested her on child endangerment charges.
Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested Cynthia Watson, 51, of Aloha Oregon Monday accusing her of leaving a cup of methamphetamine-laced tea unattended on a counter.
Deputies had responded to a child endangerment call in the 31000 block of Pine Street in Garner Valley around 10 a.m.
That’s where deputies say a two-year-old victim took the cup the night before and drank some of the contents.
The child’s mother later tried to put the girl to sleep, but noticed her daughter was talking rapidly and scratching her skin.
She also could not sit still and was very agitated. The mother was concerned and took the child to a hospital to be examined.
The child tested positive for methamphetamine at the hospital.
The sheriffs department says Watson was staying at the Pine Street address with the family. Deputies say Watson made a cup of tea Sunday evening and placed methamphetamine in it to get herself high.
Watson was arrested for felony child endangerment and possession of methamphetamine. She was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, with bail set at $35,000.00.
The child is expected to make a full recovery.
