Riverside County bracing for influx of undocumented immigrants

There are no flights planned to bring undocumented immigrants to the Southland from Texas for the rest of the week, according to the U.S. Border Patrol. This means there will be no buses arriving at the Murrieta Border Patrol station in western Riverside County where protestors blocked three buses last week.

In the meantime, Riverside County is bracing for a possible influx of immigrants from Central America.

County supervisor John Benoit made it clear the county is obligated to provide health care and other basic services to immigrants who may end up staying in the county.

“We just have to wait and see how big a problem it is, but we will be there as a safety net level of government to provide critical necessary services as necessary in a humanitarian way to whoever happens to present themselves,” said Benoit.

Benoit added- if the undocumented immigrant population continues to grow in Riverside County, the county may seek reimbursement for services provided to them from both the federal government and state government.
