Valley donates ton of supplies to help undocumented immigrants

With your help the Coachella Valley’s delivered one ton of supplies to a relocation center in Imperial Valley to help undocumented immigrant families.

Between hair cuts and styles, Read Brown and stylist Marlena Castro at Read Brown Hair Salon in Palm Springs started collecting supplies of all sorts to help.

“The turnout’s been amazing. Every day we’ve had at least five people come in. They bring blankets, food, toys, medicine,” said Brown.

The city of Coachella kicked off the collections at City Hall and Fire Station 79 in Coachella last week. Brown opened her Palm Springs business for donations to make it easier for people on the west side of the desert.

“I thought if we could give them a place on this side of the Valley to bring the donations then we would do the work to get it to Coachella,” said Brown.

Palm Springs city hall plans to collect donations starting Monday, July 14.

There’s a great need for supplies including food, clothes, medicine and toys.

– Undergarments for children in sizes 7/8 and 10/12, women size 8
– Sports bras, legging pants
– Toiletries, including shampoo, soap, tooth brushes and tooth paste
– Diapers sizes 4 to 6
– T-shirts for adults and children
– Shoe laces
– Backpacks

“We’re going to continue this until they tell us to stop. The need’s still there. We haven’t figured out what to do with these kids yet,” said Brown.

“I’m really honored we get to help these kids and I’m really proud of my team and this community for being a face of compassion not anger.”
