Wildfires burning in California
(AP) – A wildfire in Northern California has burned more than four square miles and prompted evacuations and road closures near Redding.
California fire officials say the Bully Fire started Friday afternoon in a forested area in Shasta County and threatens about 50 homes.
About 400 firefighters are trying to control the blaze, which had burned about 2,800 acres and was 10 percent contained Saturday morning.
CalFire spokeswoman Teresa Rea says temperatures are expected to surpass 100 degrees, but wind is not expected to complicate Saturday’s firefighting efforts.
In Central California, a wildfire has burned about 900 acres of a remote wilderness area of the Sequoia National Forest. No homes were evacuated or in danger. The Nicolls fire broke out around 2 p.m. Friday south of Sequoia National Park.
