Power outage at Cathedral Canyon Country Club

An official with Southern California Edison says some people who live at the Cathedral Canyon Country Club are being impacted by a power outage.

The outage began around 8:30 Wednesday night.

Edison blames the outage on a “bad section” of underground cable.

We are told crews have been working through the night to repair the cable.

Edison estimates the power should be restored at the club by sometime around 3:00 Thursday afternoon.

Edison spokesperson Nena McCullough could not point to what caused the cable to “go bad”, but said possible causes could be “wind, heat or sand” related.

If the outage had happened during the season, McCullough says upwards of 600 people living at the country club would have been affected.

But since many of the snowbirds who live at the club are gone for the summer, McCullough says only a “small number” of power customers are being impacted.

Residents who live at the club should take extra precautions to remain hydrated, and are also encourage to visit a cooling center on Buddy Rogers Avenue in Cathedral City.
