Indio victims identified after weekend shootings

The two men who were killed in separate shootings in Indio Sunday night have been identified.

According to Indio Public Information Officer Sgt.Dan Marshall, police received a call Sunday around 8:00 p.m. of a shooting at North Jackson Park by Crest Avenue.

When officers arrived, they located 20-year-old Julian Palomino Lopez who had been shot several times. Officers said friends transported the man to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital where he later died. Several cars in the area were seen with gunshot holes but no other injuries were reported.

“I was scared. I don’t want anything to happen to me,” said 11-year-old Monique Espinoza who heard the gunshots and watched police scour the area.

“It’s scary,” said Cristal Escobar, 10, who lives near and plays at the North Jackson Park.

Not even a half hour later, a second shooting was reported at 83780 Avenue 48 near Van Buren Street. Police got a call about a Hispanic man lying on the ground bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound at 8:24 p.m.

Officers found 25-year-old Christopher Luis Aguilar suffering from a gunshot wound. Aguilar was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries as well.

Both victims were from Indio.

The investigation is ongoing. It’s unknown if the two shootings are related to one another.
