Desert Hot Springs hires Interim Police Chief

Desert Hot Springs has hired a new Interim Chief of Police, according to Desert Hot Springs Councilman Russ Betts.

Charles Maynard will take over the department on Monday, August 11th according to City Attorney Steve Quintanilla. The official announcment is expected to be made at Thursday night’s special meeting in Desert Hot Springs.

Maynard is the former Police Chief of the San Anselmo Police Department, located just north of San Francisco. He retired from that department in December 2012. He also served in the Cathedral City Police Department in years past.

Maynard will be filling the shoes of former chief, Dan Bressler. Betts also added that the city is still deciding whether the Police Department will be run by the city or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Betts says that is why the position is an interim one.
