6.9 magnitude earthquake strikes central Peru

UPDATE: The U.S. Geological Survey downgraded the quake that struck central Peru to a 6.9. It was originally reported as a 7.0.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The seismological service says in a preliminary report that the quake occurred at 2321GMT Sunday and was centered about 42 kilometers (26 miles) of Tambo, Peru.
