Candlelight vigil planned for man killed in Banning crash
The family of a man who was killed after being struck by a car in Banning on Saturday is asking the community to join together for a candlelight vigil as police continue to investigate the crash. Family members tell News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that James Fewer was hit while doing landscaping work at Diamond Hills Auto Group on Ramsey Street.
According to a release from the Banning Police Department, a white sedan was traveling westbound on Ramsey Street around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday when the crash occurred. Officers said the 59-year-old victim died at the scene. He was working along the south dirt shoulder of the street.
Police said the driver, a 21-year-old man, stopped at the scene and was taken to San Gorgonia Memorial Hospital for injuries stemming from the crash. Officers said he was released after being treated.
Banning P.D. is currently investigating the crash, it’s unknown if any criminal charges will be filed against the driver at this time.
James Fewer’s family said he was a beloved son, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He’s survived by his mother, his son Jimmy, his granddaughter Kashmir, three sisters, a brother and many nieces and nephews.
His family is holding a candlelight vigil in his honor Thursday at 7 p.m. by Diamond Hills Auto Group, located at 4545 W. Ramsey St.
They’ve placed a cross on the grounds where he was struck and killed. They’re hoping the community joins them as they remember their lost loved one and spread awareness to prevent these deadly accidents from happening to other families.
