Wrong-way driver arrested for DUI after crashing car

A 55-year-old woman from Rancho Mirage is suspected of driving drunk after she crashed into a parked vehicle while driving the wrong way in Palm Desert Monday night.

According to police, Lori Allen crashed her Mazda sedan while driving eastbound on Tumbleweed Lane against the flow of traffic. The crash happened near Verba Santa Drive just before 10 p.m.

She collided with an vehicle parked on the westbound shoulder of Tumbleweed Lane. There wasn’t anyone in the vehicle.

Officers said residents in the area heard the loud crash and detained Allen until police arrived. She was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Officers took her to the hospital as a precaution before booking her into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
