Woman identified in deadly bicycle collision in Palm Desert

We’re learning more about a bicyclist who died after a car collided with her in Palm Desert Monday morning. The woman was identified as 73-year old Rose Peters of Durango, Colorado.

According to the Palm Desert Police Department, the crash happened at about 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Mesa View Drive and Highway 74. Officers determined the driver of the car hit Peters in the roadway.

Peters was riding on a hand-pedaled bike.

Cal Fire rushed her to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries but she was pronounced dead less than two hours later.

Officers said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision. Mesa View Drive at Highway 74 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 learned Tuesday that Peters was involved with a nonprofit organization called ‘Incight’. The organization offers programs that provide resources to help people who experience disabilities reach their potential.

The bike Peters was riding is commonly used by people with disabilities.

There’s no word if the driver of the car will face any charges in the deadly collision.
