Holocaust Remembrance Day to be held in Palm Desert
The 6th annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day Observance takes place on Tuesday, January 27 at Palm Desert Civic Center Park Amphitheater from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
According to Steve Geiger, Founder and Director of the Mensch International Foundation, they want to get a good turnout to remember the victims, celebrate the lives of the survivors and celebrate the state of Israel.
Geiger said they will have a moment of silence to honor the memory of the two NYPD officers who were gunned down as they sat in their patrol car; Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. They will also remember the 17 victims of the recent massacre in Paris.
Geiger said they appreciate the support of the entire desert community and ask that you and your family attend the remembrance ceremony. A couple hundred chairs will be provided for Holocaust survivors and the elderly. Others should bring chairs as needed.
The program will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with a walk afterwards to light memorial candles at the Holocaust Memorial, which is 50 feet away from the amphitheater.
Geiger also invited former President Bill Clinton to say a few words during the ceremony; he’s in town due to the Clinton Foundation’s partnership with the Humana Challenge. But Geiger isn’t sure if the former president will be able to attend due to his busy schedule in the desert this week.
Once again, the entire desert community is invited to attend and show its support for the 6th annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day Observance.
