Husband speaks out about wife trying to cut off his penis

The Palm Springs woman who admitted to trying to cut off her husband’s penis will not serve any time behind bars.

Virginia Valdez, 72, was sentenced Friday morning to three years of probation and 420 hours of community service as part of a plea agreement.

In December, Valdez pleaded guilty to attacking her then 62-year-old husband Cesar Valdez by using heavy-duty scissors. The incident happened back in December of 2011.

Cesar Valdez came forward for the first time in court Friday. He described in detail what happened, saying the two were going through a divorce but trying to reconcile. He said his wife told him she hoped he would die after she used kitchen scissors.

His attorney, Gloria Allred, held up similar scissors used in the attack outside the courtroom after the sentencing hearing.

“It has been a damaging issue for the family,” said Cesar Valdez. “And I feel not only sorry for our children but for the rest of the family, they didn’t have to go through this.”

Cesar Valdez, who had been described as ‘John Doe’ before Friday’s sentencing, said he came forward to bring attention to the fact that men too are victims of domestic violence, but believes they are not treated the same as female victims.

He said if the roles were reversed, his former wife would be in jail, not on probation.
