Coachella Valley pizzerias gear up for Super Bowl boost in sales

Super Bowl XLIX kicks off Sunday and as football fans celebrate the national sports holiday, 48 million Americans will order take out for their big parties. When it comes to take out on game day, pizza is king.

“Super Bowl Sunday means pizza and wings and that’s what we specialize in. We get a lot of to-go orders,” said Jack Srebnik, owner of The Slice in Rancho Mirage.

Srebnik said Super Bowl Sunday is one of the busiest days for pizza sales, just behind Halloween. Pizza joints across the country are bulking up on pepperoni and cheese to feed hungry football lovers.

“The week before we start bringing in extra ingredients. We have extra staff on hand, extra pizza boxes and extra people answering phones,” said Srebnik.

While four million pies are expected to sell across America, Srebnik, expects his restaurant will dish out between 75 and 100 pizzas, and 500 wings on game day.

“We get slammed. Most people pick up an hour before the game starts and at 5:30 at halftime,” he said.

To play it safe for your Super Bowl party.

“Absolutely call ahead. We have to have the orders by Saturday the latest. Everybody wants to pick up at the same time,” said Srebnik.

Americans will consume on average 2,000 calories while cheering on their favorite team.

“I hope to send the winners home happy and the losers home full,” said Srebnik.
