Marlon Mack remembered after Desert Hot Springs crash

David Taylor remembers his best friend Marlon Mack, 29, of Desert Hot Springs.

“He was the life of the party, always laughing, dancing, smiling,” said Taylor.

The two grew up together. They had just celebrated Mack’s 29th birthday Tuesday and two days later “I had let him use the car. He was actually on his way to return it to me,” said Taylor.

Mack never made it to Taylor’s home. His life was cut short in a wreck near Desert Hot Springs Thursday afternoon. Police said he was speeding south on Indian Canyon Drive when he lost control of the Toyota Camry and crashed head-on into a pick-up truck. Mack died on scene.

“I didn’t want to believe it at first,” said Taylor.

Two people in the truck suffered minor injuries. We’re told Mack was not wearing a seat belt. Taylor said it’s a reminder for all drivers to slow down and buckle up.

“I’m going to be cautious of what I do,” said Taylor.

Taylor told us Mack was a graduate from Mt. San Jacinto High School in Cathedral City. He was a barber who dreamed of opening his own shop to provide a better life for his 2-year-old daughter Za’Niya.

“It’s just sad to see him gone. She might never remember who he was other than pictures. I’m going to miss him,” said Taylor.
