Cinco de Mayo means more cops on road & cheaper cabs

Cinco de Mayo is a night for celebration and some people will be enjoying a margarita or two, but they better not get behind the wheel.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will be increasing patrols on Tuesday night.

“On holidays like these, people are out enjoying alcoholic beverages, and some people are not doing that responsibly, so we have to make sure that we are out there,” said Deputy Armando Munoz with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

If you can’t get a designated driver, Desert City Cab has your back. It’s offering a 10 percent discount if a driver picks you up from a residence, and a 20 percent discount if you get picked from a bar or restaurant. Just ask for the discount when you call for the cab.

“I think it’s especially important just like any other time of the year when it’s a heavy period of partying and festivities to make sure that people are safe and not driving while they’ve been drinking,” said Mark Triplett, general manger for Desert City Cab.

Unlike services like Uber, the cab company doesn’t jack up the price when times get busy.

“They do surge pricing, so we expect their price to increase dramatically tonight, I know that during the Coachella festival weekend some of those prices were $300 to $500 dollars, we will not be doing anything like that,” said Triplett.

You can call Desert City Cab at 760-328-3000 you can also download their app from the App Store or Google Play.
