Fugitive wanted for April shooting now in custody

A wanted fugitive was behind bars Thursday, suspected of shooting a man about month ago in an unincorporated area just south of Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.

Eric Deshon Brown, 34, walked into the sheriff’s station in Palm Desert about 10 p.m. Wednesday and surrendered to investigators, department spokesman Armando Munoz said.

After Brown had been on the run for three weeks, News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 spoke to his family. His mother was pleading for her son to turn himself into authorities.

He was booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio for investigation of attempted murder and is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

The shooting was reported at 6:46 a.m. April 3 in the 16000 block of Avenida Ramada. Deputies found the victim, whose name was not released, suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and took him to a hospital, Munoz said.

Witnesses told deputies the shooter ran into a home in the 16-200 block of Avenida Ramada. A sheriff’s SWAT team was called in, but a search of the residence failed to turn up the suspect.
