2 homes catch fire in La Quinta

Firefighters have been busy Thursday responding to a three-alarm fire in Indio, and now they’ve also been called to a house fire in La Quinta.

According to a release from Cal Fire, a single-story home in the 54000 block of Avenida Martinez caught fire just after 1 p.m. Officials said a home behind the residence caught on fire immediately after.

Only one person was home at the time of the fire and was taken to a local hospital via ambulance before the fire department arrived. The extent of that person’s injuries hasn’t been listed.

Firefighters continue to work the blaze. There’s no word how the fire started at this time or the extent of damage. Officials expected to remain on scene until 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

And while firefighters were working the house fire, another fire ignited in the hills above the La Quinta Cove. The small brush fire sparked in some trees near Casa Del Sol and Avenida Madero around 2:15 p.m.

Firefighters were initially unable to locate the fire and they had to hike a short distance to gain access. Officials said the fire was small and they didn’t expect it to spread.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 have a crew on scene and we’ll post updated information as soon as we have it.
