Palm Springs Unified teachers to get raises

The Palm Springs Teacher’s Association has ratified a new contract proposal with 96 percent of teachers voting yes.

The deal calls for a 5 percent raise retroactive to July first of 2014.

An additional 5 percent raise will begin in July of this year.

Another half percent increase will be added at some point in the future.

Teachers held what they called a “rally for respect” last month before the tentative contract agreement was reached.

Along with the raises, there may be other changes to scheduling.

The contract now needs to be approved by the school board.
