American Cancer Society big winner in “Battle of the Badges” charity softball game

Back in February, Bradd Mann from the American Cancer Society reached out to detective Al Holloway to try and put together a charity softball game between the Cathedral City Police Department and the Cathedral City Fire Department. The results turned out to be the inaugural “Battle of the Badges” on Saturday night at Big League Dreams Sports Complex.

Event organizers considered the game a huge success, raising roughly $2,000 and hope to continue the game for years to come. Each department donated $500, while the other $1,000 came from admission at the gate and raffle tickets.

Big League Dreams Sports Complex donated their facility for the night. Fans enjoyed the game and players on the field were proud to be a part of it.

“Any time we can get together as public safety together to generate money to benefit research, the education, and the programs the cancer society pushes forward is a good day,” said Cathedral City Battalion Chief Eric Hauser. “So we were very grateful to be out here and assist and do our small part.”

The fire department defeated the police department 26-9.
