CareerBuilder Challenge, former Bob Hope Classic, to tee off in 2016

The PGA TOUR announced Monday CareerBuilder as the new Title Sponsor for the former Bob Hope Classic, most recently the Humana Challenge. It will now be the CareerBuilder Challenge.

The PGA TOUR released a statement saying CareerBuilder has entered a six-year agreement that runs through 2021.

As for which golf courses will be played during the tournament and where Bob Hope Square will be, organizers said that is still up in the air.

“We’ll be announcing the courses shortly, hopefully in the next week or two. There may be a little change there. All in all everything’s going along very well,” said John Foster, President/CEO of Desert Classic Charities.

CareerBuilder says it’s the global leader in human capital solutions.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome CareerBuilder as the new title sponsor, joining the Clinton Foundation in support of a tournament that has been an important part of the PGA TOUR schedule for more than 55 years,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem.

“While long associated with the great Bob Hope as the tournament host, the CareerBuilder Challenge has the distinction of being one of only two PGA TOUR tournaments, along with the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, in which amateurs play alongside the professionals during actual tournament competition,” Fishchem said.

The tournament has generated more than $56 million for a number of local non-profit organizations around the Coachella Valley since its introduction in 1960 as the Palm Springs Golf Classic.

“FIND benefits every year from a donation from the golf tournament and that money goes into running our warehouse and accessing for the food and our fresh produce program,” said FIND Food Bank CEO Lisa Houston.

Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder said, “CareerBuilder is excited to become the title sponsor of a tournament that is not only rich in tradition and sports excellence, but also has a strong commitment to philanthropy.”

The event will continue to promote a health-focused theme and a tribute will be the Bob Hope Trophy awarded to the champion of the CareerBuilder Challenge.

Ferguson continued, “We look forward to working with the PGA TOUR and the Clinton Foundation as we continue on our mission to empower employment around the world.”

The PGA TOUR, along with Desert Classic Charities and the Clinton Foundation say the newly named CareerBuilder Challenge will continue to honor and celebrate the legacy of Bob Hope and his longtime role as tournament host.

The president of the Desert Classic Charities, John Foster, was scheduled to address the media to answer questions about the new Title Sponsor on Monday morning.

The PGA TOUR also said the tournament will again promote a health focused theme this next year through its existing relationship with the Clinton Foundation.
