Police search for suspects after 2 men shot in Cathedral City

Cathedral City police are searching for two suspects who fired multiple shots at a group of people who were gathered in a front yard Sunday night.

Officers received reports of multiple shots fired near Cathedral Canyon Drive and Ortega Road around 8:30 p.m. A person called to say there were two gunshot victims at their residence in the 34000 block of Cathedral Canyon Drive.

Authorities said a 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old man were both shot in the legs. One of the victims was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center and the other refused transport but was later taken to the hospital by relatives.

Officers said 9 to 12 people were standing in the front yard of the home on the 34000 block of Cathedral Canyon Drive when two suspects approached from the south and fired their weapons from a driveway south of the residence.

One of the suspects is described as a Hispanic male adult with a bald head, about 5’8″ and 200 lbs. He was wearing tan or gray shorts and a white t-shirt. There was no description of the other suspect.

Police said they both fled on foot and ran to a car that was waiting on Ortega Road. The car is said to be a newer model, light-colored Nissan Sentra or Chrysler 200 with LED tail lights. The car was last spotted traveling eastbound on Ortega Road.

After investigating the shooting, officers found eleven .45 caliber shell casings and two .38 caliber spent bullets. Since no .38 caliber casings were found, officers suspect the second weapon used was a revolver.

The search for the shooters continues. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Cathedral City Police Department at 760-770-0300.
