Car collides with big-rig in early morning wreck in Thermal

Authorities are cleaning up at an early morning collision in Thermal that blocked traffic.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid Harrison Street at the intersection of Middleton Street.

That’s where a vehicle collided with a semi-trailer truck carrying lumber around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol said one person was trapped for a short time, but the driver of the semi-trailer truck pulled the other motorist out from under his truck.

The driver of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

There was a diesel spill and hazardous materials workers were expected to be on scene for several hours.

The California Highway Patrol said Middleton was closed at the intersection at Harrison, but Harrison was open in both directions.
