Valley gets more wind, unseasonably cool temps

Winds rumbled along Interstate 10 Thursday afternoon, piling inches of dirt and sand on valley roadways.

“My daughter had a party at a park and everything blew away,” said Liz Figueroa of Desert Hot Springs.

“If you’re going to do your hair just forget about it because no one gets to keep their hair looking good out here,” said Patsy Peterson of living in the valley.

The gusty conditions took center stage at Desert Hot Springs High School’s graduation ceremony.

“Maybe the sand will be a bit of confetti at the end, hopefully,” said Carlos Hernandez of Desert Hot Springs.

“It might be a problem for some of the caps but it’s all good it’s graduation man,” said Thomas Avila, one of the seniors eager to get his diploma.

“Hopefully we’ll sit on that side so when they throw them up one of us will catch one,” joked Gary Wade of the graduation caps flying off students’ heads.

Excited seniors did their best to keep their caps in place, but took the wacky weather in stride on their special night.

“Overall I think it’s good, I mean at least it keeps everyone cool and relaxed,” Hernandez said.

“It doesn’t affect today,” Avila said. “The wind, it’s alright, I just want to give a big shoutout to the class of 2015.”
