The 35-year-old Spaniard was tested by the talented Aussie in Nick Kyrgios but ultimately proved to be the better player, advancing to the semifinals at Indian Wells for the 11th time in his career.

It was a fiery match up of contrasting styles but Nadal showed championship composure while Kyrgios lost his cool and some racquets along the way.

Nadal, 19-0 this season, will face fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals. Alcaraz became the youngest semifinalist since Andre Agassi in 1988 after upsetting defending champion Cam Norrie on Thursday.
