Driver is killed in rollover accident in Thermal

A 25-year old woman is dead today from an accident that occurred early Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at approximately 8:38 a.m., a solo vehicle fatal traffic collision occurred on Pierce Street, south of 63rd Avenue, in Thermal.

A 25 year old woman from Indio was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima northbound on Pierce Street. For unknown reasons, the driver turned the Nissan to the right, and off the roadway. The Nissan traveled onto the dirt shoulder, through a chain link fence and struck a concrete pipe on the driver side, causing major damage to the vehicle.

The driver was transported to JFK Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. There was one passenger in the vehicle, a 23 year old man from Indio, who was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office should be contacted for the identity of the deceased party. This collision is still under investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor. The driver and passenger were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
