Series of events kick off CareerBuilder Challenge
The 57th annual CareerBuilder Challenge golf tournament begins Monday with a series of events leading up to Thursday’s opening round. The $5.8 million weekend tournament — formerly known as The Bob Hope Classic — will take place at the TPC Stadium and Jack Nicklaus Tournament courses at PGA West.
A full week pass for the tournament costs $100 and is good for all five days of the tournament; Wednesday through Sunday, according to careerbuilderchallenge.com.
The tournament will showcase 156 golfers, including Phil Mickelson, Kevin Na, Billy Horschel, Patrick Reed and defending champion Bill Haas. This year’s event marks the first time since 1987 the tournament will be played on the TPC Stadium Course.
“The Stadium Course was designed to allow fans maximum opportunities to see their favorite players,” Tournament Director Bill Tait said.
CareerBuilder is the second company to sponsor the tournament since Bob Hope’s name was dropped from the title. From 2012 to 2015, the event was known as the Humana Challenge. The event has raised $56 million for local charities since its beginnings in 1956, according to a press release.
The festivities began Monday at 8 a.m. with a kick-off breakfast at the PGA WEST Private Clubhouse, attended by La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will have in-depth coverage of the tournament and we’ll keep you up-to-date as the professionals begin to tee off.
