TRAFFIC ALERT: AM Congestion reported from I-10 freeway closure at Jefferson
UPDATE 6:00 a.m. Westbound I-10 traffic is back up to speed after the freeway lanes were reopened shortly before 6:00 a.m.
————
An overnight freeway closure was slowing traffic along Interstate 10 in Indio early Friday morning.
WESTBOUND freeway traffic was being detoured off Interstate 10 at the Jefferson Street exit, then using Varner Road until reentering the freeway at Washington Street.
Eastbound freeway traffic was not affected by the closure.
Traffic entering the freeway from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street was using the normal westbound Jefferson freeway onramp without delay.
Crews are working to place steel girders for a second new bridge now under construction at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Half mile westbound traffic delays were being reported as of 4:00 a.m., and traffic typically picks up at 5:00 a.m., so motorists were urged to use caution.
