Uprooted tree causes LQ gas leak

An uprooted tree, knocked over by wind, caused a gas leak in the La Quinta Cove Friday evening, Southern California Gas Company officials said.

Cal Fire Riverside County responded to the leak just after 7:15 p.m. on Avenida Ramirez near Avenida Durango.

Neighbors told CBS Local 2 and KESQ they could see gas coming from the ground, and could smell it. They wore masks while crews worked to contain the leak.

The gas was under control by 8:20 p.m. and only one home was directly impacted.

Fire officials would not comment on scene. No word on any injuries.

Stay with CBS Local 2 and KESQ for details as they become available.
