Stranded rock climber rescued in Idyllwild

A man stranded while rock climbing on Monday was airlifted to safety near Idyllwild, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a climber in distress at about 11 a.m. at Tahquitz Peak, a popular rock climbing area in the San Jacinto Mountains.

At about 2:35 p.m., a Cal Fire helicopter came to the aid of the man — who reportedly did not suffer any injuries — and brought him to an ambulance, but he refused to be taken to the hospital, fire officials said.
