Short Fest gives a glimpse of the future
Over 500 filmmakers from all over the country taking part in Short Fest making this premier event in the valley one of the biggest of its kind in the entire world. this year a special day was added to help better understand where the future of the industry is headed .
“If you’re a creative person in any field, this is the place you want to be, it’s inspiring, illuminating, and also just a heck of a lot of fun.” Tod Goldberg, the Director of the UCR events said.
7- days, 327-films, 46-world premieres and that just begins to tell the story of Palm Springs Short Fest but what is offered off the big screen that makes this event stand out.
“There’s people sitting in there watching a virtual reality horror film and we had a women jump up from her chair and run to the corner because you have the virtual reality set on and you forget where you are and immerse yourself into the film.” Goldberg added.
Many students of Palm Springs Unified were given the opportunity to experience not only virtual reality but all that was showcased.
“I’m humbled at the experience they are bringing students here, students that are just starting HS and perhaps haven’t been here. Students that don’t know the culture and language and for them to experience something bigger so perhaps they would want to do something bigger themselves.” Claudia Miranda, a teacher at Palm Springs Unified said.
Palm Springs Short Fest runs thru Monday but today was the only day to experience Tech Day, but all signs look good for a return in 2017 .
“I’m sure we will do this again next year, it’s an opportunity to not only see what films look like but understand how they are made. We have the creators of these films and video games in the rooms right now. You can sit there and talk to them about how they did it and I think that demistifies the process.”
