Man busted with over 30 lbs. of meth at HWY 86 checkpoint

Border Patrol agents arrested a 26-year-old man on Friday night after they found 34.15 pounds of methamphetamine inside his car. The man was stopped at the checkpoint at 6:30 p.m. and a Border Patrol canine team alerted agents to the man’s Ford Focus.

During the secondary inspection, agents found a backpack in the backseat of the car that was holding 14 packages of methamphetamine. Sixteen additional packages of meth were later found hidden in the rear quarter panels of the car, according to the Border Patrol’s release.

Authorities said the narcotics have an estimated street value of $109,280.

The suspect is from the United States and authorities said the Drug Enforcement Agency is handling the investigation. The man, car and drugs were seized by the DEA.
