CHP releases more info about deadly I-10 crash

The California Highway Patrol is releasing new information about a deadly crash that claimed the life of a 75 year old man from Yucca Valley early Sunday morning in North Palm Springs.

The rear-end collision happened in the eastbound lanes of I-10 at 12:33 a.m.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Paul Preshaw. CHP said Preshaw was driving a Dodge Ram east of HWY 62 when the front of the Dodge struck the rear of a freightliner tractor trailer combination vehicle.

It’s unclear what caused Preshaw to collide with the freightliner, but officers said after the initial impact the Dodge traveled to the right and struck a tree off the roadway, south of the interstate.

Preshaw died at the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Officers said it’s unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.

There was one passenger in the freightliner but neither the passenger nor the driver were injured. The freightliner sustained minor damage in the collision, according to the highway patrol.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as the investigation moves forward.
