East Valley Republican Women Federated hold 9/11 candlelight vigil
The East Valley Republican Women Federated held a 9/11 candlelight vigil Saturday night in La Quinta in honor of those who died as a result of the terror attacks 15 years ago.
The ceremony began at Dusk at the East Valley Republican Headquarters. A moment of silence was observed, the pledge of allegiance recited, and one candle lit for every victim who died- 2,977 in all.
In addition to all that, a priceless artifact was on display.
“A lot of people just remember it from T.V.r,” said Michael Cericola, who assisted first responders in the aftermath of the attacks. “This is actually a part of the World Trade Center and they can actually touch a part of history.”
Cericola said he found a piece of the faade from the south tower on the ground and every year he brings it out as a reminder of the event.
People of all ages were in attendance at the vigil. Some who were just young children at the time of the attacks have become young adults.
“It’s something that’s like ‘Wow, I can’t believe it actually happened.’ I envy people who lived before,” said Marco Andrade, who was only 4-years-old at the time of the attacks. “Life was more care free, you know?”
