Burglar gets bupkis after busting through ceiling, steals play money

A thief broke into the children’s center of the YMCA in Indio over the weekend, and he apparently made off with fake money that he took from a toy cash register.

We’re pretty sure he was unaware of the fake register, as it was pretty dark. Indio police are searching for the suspect after security surveillance video caught the whole thing on camera.

The YMCA has already made repairs to the ceiling and the air conditioner.

Sgt. Dan Marshall with the Indio Police Department said this might not be the first acoustic ceiling tile-crushing caper this cat burglar has sunk his claws into.

“Thieves tend to have a specific MO (modus operandi) with stuff that they follow and stuff that they get comfortable with. If they don’t get caught doing it once and they think it’s a tried and true method and then they stick to it,” Marshall said.

If you recognize this man, or know anything about this this burglary, call Valley Crimestoppers at 760 341-STOP. Tips can remain anonymous and you may be eligible for a cash reward.
