Negotiations fail between CVUSD and teachers

The Coachella Valley Unified School District has failed to reach a contract agreement with its teachers.
The announcement was made Tuesday night after negotiations resumed following a special meeting September 22.
That week included a student protest in support of teachers and also a large number of teachers calling out sick. The union insisted it was not an organized “sick out” which would be illegal.
Tuesday night, the district’s Superintendent posted this letter:
Unfortunately, we have to announce that the district and the Coachella Valley Teacher’s Association (CVTA) did not come to an agreement during a negotiations meeting held today.
We were hoping to negotiate a fair and reasonable agreement that takes care of our employees, while ensuring that the district’s fiscal solvency remains positive at the same time.
The next step in this process is to move forward into fact finding, which was previously scheduled for November 9, 2016.
We will keep the public informed of our progress, as our goal continues to be that of a reasonable resolution with CVTA. We all share the goal of refocusing our attention on what is important, and that is continuing to move forward in our mission, vision and goal of preparing our students for College, Career and Citizenship!
More information is available on our district website under the negotiations tab.
