Visitors get peek at Modernism Week with fall preview

One of Palm Spring’s biggest festivals is getting a head start. Starting Friday, it will have a fall preview event all weekend through Sunday. The event gives an opportunity for people to get a taste of the mid-century architecture and culture festival that happens in February.

Chris Mobley, chairman of Modernism Week, said visitors could expect to see many sites featuring unique architecture that is influenced by the city’s climate.

“You see a lot of post and beam architecture and open air architecture,” he said. “Palm Springs is really a great place to have a home that is indoor and outdoor living.”

Lisa Vossler-Smith, executive director of Modernism Week, said the event would draw large crowds and help boost the local economy. She expected 8,00 people to come to the fall preview and about 80,000 to come during the main 11-day event in February. Smith estimated the economic impact to be around $28 million dollars from tourism into the city. She said it was great that the event was growing in attendance, the main focus would be on making Modernism week better and better each year.

“I think a more important goal for us is to continue to improve the quality and the experience of our visitors and residents and to be able to share more of what’s special about Palm Springs,” she said.

Tickets for the fall preview are available here. Tickets for the main event will be available on November 1 at noon.
