First Alert Weather Alert issued for Thursday ahead of monsoon thunderstorms

A First Alert Weather Alert Day was issued for today as showers and thunderstorms move across Riverside County mountains and deserts. In addition, gusty winds and blowing sand and dust may result from those storms.

A Flood Watch is in effect for the Coachella Valley as well as local mountains. The concern being scattered thunderstorms with heavy rain may lead to excessive runoff and flooding of low-lying locations.

Thunderstorm chances increased through the afternoon hours however the dense cloud cover has prevented much convection from taking place. Showers were the main setup around the desert.

Activity will become more limited on Friday and Saturday, but the active monsoonal pattern will persist. Thunderstorm chances will be on the rise early next week.
