Indio police are investigating a report of a gun on campus at Indio High School Thursday morning. Officers said two male students were arrested and one of them had a magazine loaded with bullets.

The school was placed on temporary lockdown after a student reported that a fellow student had a gun on the school’s campus.

The student who was believed to have the gun was contacted by officers, but Sgt. Dan Marshall said the student did not have a gun in his possession and the lockdown was lifted Thursday afternoon.

Officers were searching the school and the investigation was ongoing Thursday afternoon. Joe Galli confirmed at about 4 p.m. that two students were actually arrested following the investigation.

The Kids with Guns Protocol was enacted, which placed the high school in lockdown. According to officials with Desert Sands Unified School District, the protocol means officers also went to students homes to talk to their parents to make sure the child doesn’t have access to a gun.

Joe Galli was at the campus talking to parents after the incident.
