Agreement made to develop 2 hotels at SilverRock Resort in La Quinta

UPDATE: 6:40 p.m.

La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans made an announcement at the State of the City Address Thursday, she said, that’s been years in the making.

“Every project has to have their T’s crossed and their I’s dotted,” Evans said. “And this was great timing to pull everything together for the State of the City.”

Evans, along with other city leaders and developers, announced a pair of luxury hotels through Montage International to be built at SilverRock Resort.

It’s a project developer Robert Green said took time to come to fruition, due to delays and finding the right developer.

“We competed in a process dating back to 2012 and 2013, and were selected in 2013,” Green, President and CEO of the Robert Green Company said. “It took a lot of time to negotiate the deal, in terms of the economic structure of the project.”

Developers and city leaders said the project will include more than 300 rooms built between both hotels, as well as other amenities and permanent living options later on down the line at SilverRock.

The project marks a homecoming for Montage International Founder and CEO Alan Fuerstman, bringing his hotels back to where he started his hospitality career.

“My first job out of college was opening the Rancho Las Palmas Resort,” Fuerstman said. “It was a Mariott at the time. I was bell captain. And I fell in love with the hotel business after that experience and oppoortunity. And I went on to have a career in the business obviously. I have a real fondness for the desert, and have been hoping to find the right opportunity to bring our Montage and Pendry brands to the Coachella Valley.

Green said it will offer luxury to attract all sorts of customers to the resort.

“There’d be a combination of different pricepoints,” Green said. “So, where as Montage hotel is a larger guest room, sort of a higher standard of luxury and higher pricepoint. The Pendry Hotel is a slightly smaller guest room, lower pricepoint, etc. So, we can appeal to a real broad range of customers and leisure travelers.”

Montage has locations in Beverly Hills and Laguna Beach, while Pendry has a location in San Diego.

Evans said crews will start realigning the golf course at the beginning of May.

And the hotels are expected to be complete sometime in Fall 2019.

Montage International and The Robert Green Company announced an agreement Thursday to develop two hotels at the city-owned 525-acre SilverRock Resort in La Quinta.

The project will break ground this summer, according to a statement released Thursday, resulting in a 140-room Montage La Quinta hotel and a 200-room Pendry La Quinta hotel set to open in late 2019. The plans also include 29 four and five bedroom residences at Montage La Quinta, 66 two and three bedroom
residences at Pendry La Quinta, and changes to the Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course, which will be “realigned and enhanced as part of the overall development.”

“Having worked in the Coachella Valley early in my career, it is especially exciting to return with a dynamic development that is ideally suited for our Montage and Pendry brands,” said Alan J. Fuerstman, hospitality
management company Montage International’s founder, chairman and CEO. “With The Robert Green Company, we will be bringing to the City of La Quinta an amazing resort unlike anything else in the desert. The architecture, design, amenities and most importantly, the extraordinary service that is the hallmark of Montage International, should be a perfect fit for the community.”

The hotels would mark the first Coachella Valley ventures for either company. Montage has hotels in Laguna Beach, Beverly Hills, Deer Valley, Kapalua Bay, Palmetto Bluff and a new hotel opening in 2018 in Los Cabos.
Montage International also manages and operates Spanish Peaks Mountain Club in Big Sky, Montana and The May River Golf Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Pendry hotel locations include San Diego and Baltimore.

“We are thrilled to have reached an agreement with Montage International to bring both Montage and Pendry to SilverRock Resort. There has never been a resort of this caliber in the desert and nothing of this scale
developed in the desert in decades. We look forward to bringing a new level of luxury to this destination and to the City of La Quinta,” said Robert S. Green, Jr., president and CEO of The Robert Green Company.
