Police: driver blacked out before colliding with pole

Police are releasing more details about a crash that happened Tuesday morning in Thousand Palms. A man apparently blacked out from a preexisting medical condition before his pickup truck collided with a pole on the southeast corner of Ramon Road and Monterey Avenue.

The man told police that he feared he needed medical attention and began traveling from his home, southbound on Monterey Avenue to try and get to the fire station on Ramon Road and Robert Road.

As he approached the intersection, he blacked out and collided with a pole.

Officers said the man came to momentarily and a good Samaritan drove him to the fire station. He was taken to Eisenhower Medical Center afterward but we don’t know how serious his injuries are.

Witnesses said there was a lot of blood on the ground near the crash.

Traffic wasn’t impacted from the crash.
