CV Link receives $5.5M in state grant money

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) committed $5.584 million in transportation funding for the CV Link, project organizers announced Wednesday, bringing the project closer to its $100-million fundraising goal.

Any added grant money is good news for supporters of the project after the CV Link took a big hit in December when the state unexpectedly canceled a $24 million grant it had planned to award to the Coachella Valley Association of Governments.

KESQ’s Jeff Stahl has been leading an I-Team Investigation into CV Link funding and the divide between cities in the Coachella Valley.

CV Link officials said the grant award was strongly recommended by both the Riverside County Transportation Commission and by the Southern California Association of Governments.

According to the release, combined with other funding sources – including grant support from the Desert Healthcare District, South Coast Air Quality Management District, California Strategic Growth Council, Riverside County Regional Park and Open Space District and Caltrans – CVAG has now secured more than $81 million for CV Link.

“This is a vision that has been shared by a long list of community stakeholders, active transportation
advocates, health care industry representatives, air quality experts and the tourism community. We are
grateful for the continued financial support from the CTC, which provides a huge step toward getting CV
Link built.”
