Man dies days after Indio traffic collision

A man who was injured in a major traffic collision on Jefferson Boulevard, south of Avenue 48 around 7:50 p.m. Saturday night, has died.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Officials with the Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 63-year-old John Hollingshead of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada.

A family member who contacted KESQ says his full name is William John Hollingshead and that he enjoyed spending time in Coachella Valley. Friends here knew him as “Bill.”

Sergeant Dan Marshall told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that a Cadillac sedan rear-ended a mail truck, which then rear-ended a truck that was traveling in front of it.

The driver of the Cadillac suffered serious injuries, the other drivers were not injured.

The northbound lanes of Jefferson were closed at Avenue 48 for a several hours after the crash.

The cause of the crash is remains under investigation.
